Semaglutide and Tirzepatide are not appetite suppressants in the old sense. Here is what the hormone does and why patients describe the change the way they do.
The most common thing patients say after the first few weeks is some version of the same sentence: the food noise stopped. That phrase is doing a lot of work, and it is worth unpacking what is behind it.
GLP-1 is a hormone you already make
GLP-1 is a natural hormone in your body that helps regulate appetite. It is part of the signalling that tells you a meal is finished. Semaglutide is a prescription medication that mimics that hormone, so you feel fuller for longer and your cravings drop.
What that changes day to day
Combined with a healthy diet and exercise, Semaglutide can help you lose weight more effectively, reduce cravings, feel fuller for longer, and improve blood sugar control. Patients tend to notice the cravings first, because that is the part that used to take effort.
Tirzepatide is the stronger option
Tirzepatide is a very powerful medication that can help you achieve your weight loss goals faster than Semaglutide. Which one suits you depends on your history and your goals, and it is decided at your consultation rather than in advance.
Who these are approved for
Both are approved for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, or a BMI of 27 or higher with a weight-related health condition such as diabetes or high blood pressure. If you do not fit that picture, a good clinic tells you so.
What it does not do on its own
The medication changes the appetite signal. It does not decide what you eat when you do eat, and it does not build the habits that hold once the program ends. Combined with a healthy diet and exercise is the phrase that keeps appearing in the clinical description, and it is doing real work rather than covering anybody legally. Patients who treat the quiet appetite as breathing room to build routines in do noticeably better in the year afterwards than patients who treat it as the whole answer.
How the program actually runs
At Axiom it starts with a consultation with Dr. Savic, in person or over telehealth, to work out whether a GLP-1 is appropriate and which one. The medication is picked up at the office, and from there the staff and the practice's network of health professionals continue monitoring and adjusting your dose and offering guidance on how to optimize the therapy. Semaglutide starts at $150 and Tirzepatide at $200. When you reach your goal, the practice refers you on to its network of coaches, trainers and nutritionists.
